The Most Common Fire Hydrant & Hose Adapter
This is made to hook directly onto a standard fire hydrant with a 2.5" NH/NST outlet (NH/NST are the same threads by the way). This adapter is referred to as a "reducer". Once you reduce your fire hydrant down to 1.5" NH/NST male, you can then attach a 1.5" fire hose female connector.
Another common use for this adapter is using it on a 2.5" fire hose to reduce it down to 1.5" so firefighters can hook a 1.5" fire nozzle up. Fire hose nozzles are usually made with 1.5" NH/NST threads. Using a 2.5" fire hose will give you far more water flow than a standard 1.5" hose.
